International Membership

Benefits of International Membership in the AANS

The AANS offers many unique benefits to international members:

Who Can be an AANS International Member?

The AANS offers International Membership, a special membership option for international members in developing countries, and International Resident/Fellow Membership.

International Member: International members are neurological surgeons who do not qualify as an Active Member by virtue of their country of residence or training and who have completed a formal neurosurgical training program as determined by, and suitable to, the Board of Directors. Individuals applying for International Membership must reside outside of the US or Canada at the time of application.

International—Developing Country:


In an outreach effort to neurological surgeons in developing countries, the AANS is offering International Membership at a reduced dues rate. To be eligible for this reduced dues rate, neurosurgeons must reside in a developing country as defined by the World Bank's Income Data & Statistics. Other eligibility requirements apply: This International Membership is for neurological surgeons who do not qualify as an Active Member by virtue of their country of residence or training and who have completed a formal neurosurgical training program as determined by, and suitable to, the AANS Board of Directors. See below for a list of countries eligible for the reduced dues rate.

International Resident/Fellow:

International Resident/Fellow Members are residents or fellows who are enrolled in a verifiable non-North American neurosurgical training program or who are in the five years following completion of residency. Once certification is obtained, the International Resident/Fellow Member may request transfer to International Member status with the submission of a copy of their certification certificate.
