AANS Joint Sponsorship Guidelines
RULES AND REGULATIONS REGARDING CONDUCT OF EXHIBIT PERSONNEL/COMPANY REPRESENTATIVES DURING
AANS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The purpose of AANS educational activities, whether directly sponsored or jointly sponsored, is to provide continuing medical education (CME) to individuals in the neurosurgical field and to provide hands-on exposure to the latest neurosurgical techniques. The goal ofthe AANS is to ensure that the educational content is unbiased and complies with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Standards for Commercial Support. No promotional activities of any kind will be permitted in the CME activity. AANS CME ACTIVITIES ARE STRICTLY EDUCATIONAL AND NOT PROMOTIONAL.
The AANS requires that companies either exhibiting or providing educational grants follow these rules and regulations regarding conduct and interaction with attendees during educational activities. We ask that the following guidelines be strictly enforced:
- Industry representatives, such as scientists and engineers or others in research and development (as opposed to sales and marketing), may be involved in the educational activity to report strictly on research data and results or on the science, biology or the physics of devices. They must avoid making practice recommendations and their content must be educational and not promotional. Their participation as faculty may not be a condition for commercial support of the CME activity.
- Promotional materials are not allowed to be displayed or distributed within the scientific program meeting room before, during or after the educational activity.
- Representatives must not wear clothing or name badges with product specific names or logos in the CME room, nor shall their table coverings have product specific names or logos on it. If product specific names or logos are visible, it must be removed immediately. Company logos are permissible.
- If equipment is supplied for an educational activity, it must be for demonstration and educational purposes only.
- Representatives are not allowed to engage in sales activities while in the scientific program meeting room. It is fine within the confines of the exhibit room.
